1. The size

Long, square, heart-shaped, tiny? The choice of shape and size is quite free. The goal of a custom notebook is to be personal, so don't be afraid to be original. Otherwise, all standard formats are obviously possible. Here is a reminder of the classic formats:

2. Paper

The choice of paper is essential because it is the support of your notebook, the one that will define its function.

  • The recycled paper that I make can be used for dry techniques (pencil, bic, charcoal, etc.). It can be used for photo albums, scrapbooks, collages, dried flowers... Wet techniques such as watercolor could give an uncertain result.

  • The printer paper (<90g/m²) is the one we all know. It can handle most dry techniques but its smoothness does not make it an exceptional medium for professional drawing. It resists gumming but wrinkles easily. It curls under wet techniques. This paper is best suited for writing, collage and dry pencil drawing.

  • The drawing paper (>120g/m²) is, as its name indicates, ideal for drawing. I also use this paper for photo albums. It can be dyed with coffee or tea to give an aged look. It can also be a nice support for scrapbooking, guest books, etc.

  • The watercolor paper (>180g/m²) is generally made of cotton fibers. A lesser paper with a lower weight (<300g/m²) will curl more quickly but will be more economical. From 300g/m², the page accepts a more important quantity of water and keeps its shape, the cost is a little bit higher. The choice of this paper will depend on the amount of water you use.

  • Other papers for other techniques, colors, etc. are also available. Choose what you need for your unique project. I just can't list everything here, there are so many!

3. The look

The headband or tranchefile

This is the colored embroidery that holds the textblock in place and reinforces the binding. The headband is located at the top and bottom of the spine.
You can choose one or two colors.

The front pages or pages de garde

The cover pages are placed at the beginning and at the end of the notebook. They reinforce the cohesion between the textblock and the cover.  You can choose any color you like.

The bookmark or signet
Satin ribbon that serves as a bookmark. It is not mandatory, but if you wish, you can choose the number and the color(s) you like.

4. The cover

I make each cover with two wooden plates that I cover with fabric. I try to use as much natural products as possible, but let's not fool ourselves, the textile industry is not resource efficient... So I look for natural fibers and recover fabrics in good condition. However, I leave open the possibility of using other fabrics (mix of natural and synthetic fibers). The fabrics I have in stock are listed below.

Some fabrics have nice patterns and can stand on their own, others are plain. For those who wish, I can make an embroidery on the plain natural fibers fabric or a painting of your choice on any fabric.
